Open Access: The Basics, October 21 at Queens College

The Center for Teaching and Learning at Queens College is sponsoring an event during Open Access Week. If you’d like to learn more about open access, this talk is for you! We will cover:

– The benefits of open access publishing
– Authors’ rights
– Green open access (self-archiving on the web)
– Gold open access (open access journals)
– Evaluating potential publishers
– Resources at QC to help you learn more about open access.

College Open Textbooks

The College Open Textbooks Collaborative, which emerged from the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, includes “twenty-nine educational non-profit and for-profit organizations, affiliated with more than 200 colleges.”

Their website offers a list of open textbooks and other open educational resources by subject. They also offer peer reviews of many open educational resources, to assist faculty in choosing material for their courses.

Open Access Week is Coming Soon!

This year’s Open Access Week — the 6th year for this international event — is scheduled to take place October 21-27. If you’re planning an event at your campus to celebrate, please let us know so we can include it here! Last year there were lots of fantastic events across the university, and there are surely lots of great plans in the works for this year, too.
